1. Emerging technology such as Blogs, E-videos, E-books, or E-messages can have a positive and a negative affect on literacy. On the bright side, all of these technological ways to send mail, read books, and watch videos help us to get things done much faster than if we were to use our old fashion pencil and paper. These sources of technology can be helpful for work since they do have a great ability to finish things quickly. However, this emerging technology can also negatively affect society and literacy. These things allow us to be completely dependant on our technology and so if it were to disappear, we would feel hopeless and no longer feel like we can still accomplish the things that need to be done. For example, when writing an essay, we always rely on our computers because they get the job done much faster. However, if our computers become no longer useful due to having them break or no longer function properly, we would not be as confident in thinking that we can finish our essay and we begin to spend more time in looking for ways to either get another computer, or to fix our broken ones in order to do the essay than the time it would have taken to write it simply with a pencil and a paper. In conclusion, technology is useful and helpful, but it should not completely consume us.
2. Web 2.0 is challenging us to rethink the way that we live our lives by causing us to think how about how much time of the day we spend in front of technology whether it involves socializing with friends and family, doing homework, etc. When we think about how much we use technology, it helps us realize that we do not do things the same way we used to before. By Web 2.0 showing us that we are so attached to technology that we are even using it for socializing more than we physically socialize, it completely makes us rethink the way we do things and maybe even try to get out of the habit of using technology for things that can be done manually.
